El Dorado Colombian Gold

The Australian Art Exhibitions Corporation is proud to present the exhibition “El Dorado Colombian Gold”. This superb collection of ancient gold objects from Colombia, South America, is brought to Australia for the first time. We hope that you will enjoy seeing it and that it will contribute to a better understanding of the fine craftsmanship and art of this ancient civilisation. We are most grateful to the Banco de la Republica, Colombia and the Museo del Oro, Bogota for their generosity in making these priceless exhibits available. The Australian Art Exhibitions Corporation Limited was first established in 1976 with the personal support of the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Malcolm Fraser, to manage the Chinese Exhibition. Following the success of that exhibition it was decided to retain the Corporation to assist in bringing major exhibitions to the public of Australia. I believe that the planning and presentation of this exhibition represents a fine example of co-operation between many segments of the private and government sectors. We are indebted to the Benson and Hedges company for their generous sponsorship of the exhibition. We are grateful for the Commonwealth Government's agreement to indemnify the exhibition against loss. Without the full co-operation of very many people and organisations, including the participating galleries, and the Australia Council, it would not have been possible to bring you “El Dorado Colombian Gold”.
