Poetry of the Carolingian Renaissance

This handsome anthology of Latin poetry from the late eighth to the tenth century serves several purposes. In presenting texts of 62 poems with translations on facing pages, it make a neglected body of literature accessible both to students of the Middle Ages and to general readers. And in offering an 80-page critical account of the poetry, it provides a welcome introduction to the literature of the courts of Charlemagne, Louis the Pious and Charles the Bald, as well as useful commentaries on the individual poems.
